I just started watching Enterprise; I've seen the past five or six episodes. Anyway, I notice they always talk about polarizing the hull plating. Do they not have shields yet? Can somebody please fill me in.

Nope no shields yet. One episode they set up a simple force field inside the ship, but thats it.

I think they use a very simple deflector technology to repel meteroite strikes. I would imagine that hitting a grain of sand at warp five wouldn't be too good for the ship.

Also their array of weapons are limited and they don't have a tractor beam yet. They cruise at warp 4.5-4.8 but rarely go warp 5+ since the reactors will overheat.

No shields for Earth vessels, but the Klingon ships have shield technology during this time period.

Enteprise stinks, they need to fire Rick Berman and let the franchise cool off. The only good parts are when Jolene gets degermified in her techno-erotic chamber.

They have already created a basic forcefield, and used it to keep an alien entity from attacking them when they tried to communicate with it.
