Quick EE question

Quick question...If I know the desired drain current...does the source current also equal this(approx)? I think so but I just want to confirm before I make that assumption to solve a problem.

If you're looking at a short channel device the gate leakage current might not be all that negligable, but in most cases I'm sure you can say the source and drain currents are equal.

This question is posed in an ideal sense...but thanks that is useful to remember
