I just sold something on ebay. It went for nice money. It is a spoiler for an old car, and a hard to find part.

Anyway I stated free shipping in the auction text. The high bidder is in Mexico. Now I want to charge him shipping when I send the invoice. Is that wrong of me? I should have said free domestic shipping, but I didn't. Should I honor the free ship thing even though he is not in the States? It is not going to be cheap shipping this thing.

Probably a member of the Mexican drug cartel, they are the only ones with money down there. I would ship it free, lest your neighbors find your tortured and beheaded body nailed to a stop sign.

Wow. How did you miss that? When you put something up for sale, there are pulldown tabs for shipping option. You have to intentionally add shipping to out of country and choose the various shipping option which also calculate for you.

If I were you, going forward I would check the boxes so only USA bidders can bid on your items. Saves a lot of hassle when international buyers try and win your items, and then want to do some kind of "special" shipping. Only foreign bidders I trust are those from the UK.

yes but then you are limiting the amount of potential bidders for your auction. my item might have gone for a lot less if only bidders in the US were able to bid.

I just looked at my auction again and I did say shipping to the US in there. So I could have charged him extra for Mexico shipping. It is too late now since I already sent him the invoice.

Even though it may limit your audience, it saves you a ton of hassle and money in the end. Just wait till you have to deal with a deadbeat bidder or worse.

cancel transaction with the reason "buyer lives in a region i don't ship to" or ship it for free

pic of the ridiculously huge spoiler?

It is something like the above, but it is for a mark 1 jetta not a rabbit. since it sits on the trunk there are no side pieces. it is pretty much the same size though.

the high bidder has not paid me yet. you guys were right about foreign buyers. even with his 150 all positive feedbacks, he is most probably a freaking deadbeat. there has been no communication with this guy.
