A freind of mine wants to connect (network) 2 of his computers to play multiplayer games. He is only interested in gaming, no file, internet, or print sharing (although these could be a plus).

I think one of the computers is Win98 and the other is either Win98 or ME.

What is a quick and easy way to accomplish this? Neither has an NIC, but they are cheap and easy to install, so I am not afraid of doing that. I am pretty computer savy, but I have never had much networking experience other than at work (I am a Mechanincal Engineer) and setting up a cable modem myself.

Thanks

You have a couple of options. YOu can install a nic in both machines and then use a crossover cable, or you can use a null modem serial cable. Either way, they're both cables that swap the send and recieve on one end. I would recommend the nic option as the null modem is slow as hell and does not work very well.

The cheapest way is to buy two NICs, and crossover Cat5 cable.

The easiest way is to buy one of those USB network connectors, it takes about 5 min. to get it running, it is only 5Mb/sec. but that is enough for games.
