Do you need to have a landline to make use of the DVR from Dish Network? I am already dumped my land line for VOIP, but I don't really even use that much... If I dumped that and just used my cell, would I still be able to get Dish with DVR?

You can get it, but they have an additional fee they tack on if it's not connected to a phone line.

However, I believe they will waive the fee with one of their top programming packages.

It's too complex for me to remember all the ins and outs of the situation.

I have read that some DirectTV customers fought this and won the case. I can believe it to be true because many people do not have land lines anymore.

You can find answers to all of this at http://www.satelliteguys.us/

everday it isn't plugged up you find a screen on your tv that tells you if you don't plug it up, they'll charge you extra

my VoIP was out for 10 days and it was just annoying, not sure how long it takes before they actually charge you

I have had the Top 60 for a year. No landline connected and no fee. Never charged one from the beginning. Where'd you get your info?

It depends on what receiver you have. I have a 721 with no DVR fee and no extra fee for no phone line. Although mine is plugged in.

The newer receivers are different though. I get my info from the link provided. Good forums there on satellite info.

Makes sense, I have the DVR521 I guess this would be considered older.

Just on the new dual tuner stuff (322 - 522 - 625) if you don't they charge an extra $5 per month, DTV's new DVR (The R15) doesn't need the phoneline hooked up, The older dish DVRs don't as well.
