Front end load = Pay a fee when you purchase
Back end load = Pay when you sell
No Load = Best deal all the way around

Shop around for a company that deals with no load mutuals and you will be best off. Those that charge loads will tell you its a fee to cover their costs. If you look at a prospectus you will see that the management fee is included in the base cost. Its nothing more than a way for them to get more $$ out of you. Search No Load Funds on Google and look them up on WSJ.com

At one time a front load was a fee paid at purchase thus reducing the amount to be invested, a back end load was a fee paid when selling shares.
