I'm a big tablet guy, and to that end, I picked up a Dell Venue 8 7840.
Quick impressions:
1. Really not that fast. I expected it to be comparable to iPad Air A7 tablets. It is not. Hearthstone is still considerably jittery. It is slightly faster than the Galaxy Tab S with Exynos processor, but not by that much. It is slower than Venue 8 windows tablets I've used in the past, though to be fair the Windows tablet also had half the resolution.
2. Web surfing is good for an android device, but inferior to windows and iOS. It scrolls smoothly and immersively, but at the same time Android in general has the problem of not being able to transition that well between applications or different actions within an application. Lots of times on webpages I'll be scrolling and then I'll find the position of the text change as objects and images are loaded. It is pretty jerky. Pressing any button does not give you immediate results, but there is always a split second pause, which is not present in iOS or windows devices.
2a. It doesn't have any of the swipe sideways to go back a webpage that iOS has.
3. As per android, more missed touches than iOS or Windows. At the same time, the screen is a little too touch sensitive. This can be altered in language and input settings. Holding the very thin bezels too often results in erroneous touches, that combined with a too sensitive screen.
5. Amazing screen and form-factor. Very thin though pretty heavy given metal construction. Has a tendency to slide around so it's getting a leather case soon. Sharp metallic edges on handheld personal devices I don't get. I wish all of these devices came built-in with leather cases.
6. Good sound too.
7. camera is interesting, though it seems like a gimmick. For some reason they put the lenses at the bottom of the tablet where you're likely to put your hands all over them, and not the top which is where most tablets have cameras.
Edit: just rebooted it and it is much smoother. I don't know why this is, but most of the post is moot.
