Depends on the chip and motherboard. Overclocking is a crapshoot.

I mean I have 1700+...and pc3200 ram....mother board is a7n8x rev. 2 (supports 400 fsb) since both ram and mobo support that fsb can cpu be just incapable of that fsb?

It's entirely possible that the chip can't do a 200MHz FSB.

you can't just throw 200FSB at it. you must lower the multiplier. a xp1700 has a default multiplier of 11.0. At 11.0*200, you are trying to run a 1470mhz chip at 2200mhz. Not that it can't be done with that chip, but most likely not without good cooling and raising voltages.

He frickin said even at a low multiplier. He knows you have to lower the multi.

It's possible but I'd suspect the board then the ram in that order first.

I think you have other problems at work. The 1700+ should easily crack 2.2 GHz, unless you have a real dud on your hands. My 2100+ hits 2400+ on air cooling without a hitch. I did have to monkey around in the BIOS to stabilize, but stable it was for two weeks, before the din of the fans made me lower the thing to 2.3 GHz for daily work.

Your setup looks up to task, so the next questions are: What are you cpu temps at load, and what are you memory timings set at? The Kingston HyperX PC3000 is good memory, but it should be set to slightly more relaxed timings to accomodate the higher FSB. At 200 mhz FSB, I have to run my HyperX PC2700 at 2.5-3-6-3 and 2t, instead of 2-2-5-2 and 1t that I run at 177 mhz FSB. The ratings on the PC3000 make me think that is nothing more than PC2700 tested to run at PC3000 speed, so similar timing at 200Mhz FSB may help.

Good luck! Mark

Sorry for the late additiion to this thread.

Ether way, 200FSB is very very possible, and with your particular mobo and chip, has been sucessfully done many times.
