I want to stream Netflix from my phone to an hotel room TV.
The hotel TVs have HDMI ports accessable.
I don't want to rely on hotel WiFi (because hotel WiFi is terrible in all circumstances).
I have a healthy mobile data limit.

AFAIK Chromecast needs to be connected to a WiFi router to work properly. Can I set my phone as a WiFi hotspot, connect the Chromecast to that, start Netflix on the phone then stream it to the Chromecast? (This sounds clunky)

I could just connect my phone to the TV using a USB c to HDMI cable but that's going to involve me getting out of bed to change programs.

The hotel uses Samsung smart TVs and you can natively stream to them but you have to connect to the hotel WiFi which I want to avoid.

So will Chromecast work well in this situation or is there a better solution?

Went the usb c to hdmi route myself, works fine. Long cable?? Hotel rooms not that big. Personally I need the exercise.

I assume you mean Netflix won't work directly on the chromecast using the phone as a hotspot?

If not... the casting loop you're describing sounds fraught with streaming doom to me.

Personally I'd go with wired HDMI.

If you had another device, spare phone or tablet, you could use that to connect to your cell hotspot and use chromecast that way. It's what I do when I stay at hotels.

I dont know, I dont have a chromecast. If this way of doing things works I'd buy one.

The cable route is seeming easiest.

Usb c to hdmi basically mirrors your phone, so it's more than just Netflix.

Ended up with a Choetech USB C to HDMI lead. Seems to do the job. Sound and picture come through fine and theres even a port or charging the phone at the same time.

Have got a bit of overscan on the picture though, which I guess is easy to fix in the TV settings. Its only a little bit so I'll probably put up with it!

Cheers guys!
