My E8400 is arriving in a few days, and I want to hit the ground running, but not dead in a few days.

1.4v or 1.35v for max voltage so that I can use the computer for about 5 years with occasional usage?

For occasional usage 1.4V should be fine. For 24/7 use for that long I would stick with 1.35V.

If it's cool enough, you can keep it at 1,4 V. Hard to say if it will last 5 years and I don't see the point in keeping it so much time. After 5 years this cpu will be, maybe, good only for internet browsing.

1.40v bios, at idle, or under load? 1.40v or even higher in bios is fine depending on your vdrop/vdroop, but try to keep your LOAD vcore at 1.35 or lower for 24/7 usage and you'll be gtg.

So in general, 1.35v would be pretty safe, or can 1.35v be in some cases pretty unsafe for about 5 year usage? I understand no ocing is "safe," but given due consideration of temps, coolers, etc.
