I'm buying parts off newegg in just a few moments and for video cards I've decided to go with the 9600Xt model but I'm not sure which to get. Budget is 150, but I'm open to other options as well.

Thanks.

9600XT is a waste of money. More power can be achieved through a 9700pro or even a 9500. On $150, I'd look for one of those or spend the extra bit of $ and get a 9800 Pro. You will be 10x more satisfied with one of those than a 9600XT.

9800Pro is a little out of my reach, would a 9800NP be better? Also, I don't plan to play a lot of games, almost none really, but I'd still like to be able to play them every now and then.

People sometimes sell 9800Pros here for as low as $150. I would have a bit of patience and keep your eye out for such a deal in the FS/FT/WTB forum.

Or even go for a 5900XT. Those usually run a bit cheaper than 9800Pros but the 9800Pro is a better card. Either the 5900XT or the 9800Pro would be much better than the 9600XT.

I say go dig in your sofa and drawers for $7 worth of change and get the 9800Pro. You don't wana be buying a 9600XT instead 🙂

Edit: or this one

should come w/ an R360 core and saves you $5 which would only put you $2 over budget 🙂 It's been reported that these cards show up as a 9800XT out of the box.

Oh don't worry, my budget of 902 was from student loands...so in actuality, I'm not paying for anything out of pocket up to that ammount 😀. Thanks a bunch man, I really appreciated that.

I bought the 9800Pro that IceMole linked me to for 193. But, strangely now it's not listed on their website, kinda has me worried.
