I have a guy at my work that is changing from DirecTV to Dish and was going to sell me his old dish on the premise it is dual LNB and can get two separate signals. His dish has two spots for coax cables but has only one of the "round signal things". I had always assumed that you needed 2 in order to get two different signals otherwise it was the same signal split to two different rooms.

Am I right or wrong?

If it has two coax connectors it's dual output LNB and yes you can watch two different things at the same time.

If it's connected to 2 different recievers that is. Only some of the newer recievers have dual tuners so you can plug both cables into a reciever and get picture in picture
