Quick and easy question (I'm sure)

I had to swap the guts out from a case into a new one for my father, it was my first "build" and it went pretty smoothly actually.

One question is the RAM.
The mobo is the Asus A7N8X-X
http://www.devhardware.com/c/a/Motherboards/Asus-A7N8X-X/

It has 3 slots for memory the first 2 on the left are fairly close to each other and the 3rd one is gapped off a bit to the right.
I have both 1G sticks in the slots on the left is this right?
On boot up I noticed the black screen saying "single channel model" so not sure if this is right or not?

Thank you.

Presumably if it mentions single channel, it can run in the superior dual channel mode. I would try swapping one stick to the other memory slot - my first guess would be to leave the middle one empty.

Usually these things are colour coded, but the code varies 😛 Sometimes you want both in the same colour slots, sometimes, you don't. Without looking at your motherboard manual which I can't get at due to crappy work internet connection, all I can do is guess.

It's only single channel so where you have your ram installed is fine. I don't think it really matters where you install the ram. If your OS shows the same amount as you have installed you should be good to go.

That page you linked to says at the very top of the specifications section that the board has no dual channel support.

I guess if it shows 2048 while in XP I should leave it at that. lol
Can't be bothered with tweaking and all that, just wanted to make sure for the old man's sake.
Appreciate the help guys.
