I have a small WiFi network with an old computer running XP Pro that I've turned into a NAS server basically just by sharing the entire drive partition that I keep all my data on (the D: drive- I did not share the C: partition). My primary computer, a Thinkpad T30 also running XP Pro can pick it up just fine (I have the drive mapped across the network in My Computer) and view the folders... but I can't access them. For example:
...says the red x error message. It used to work great for over a year, until I did this: last weekend I copied that entire drive's contents to another hard drive that I keep elsewhere for redundant safety in case of any drive failure or catastrophe. I then formatted the partition, and re-copied all the data back over to it. It's all there and accounted for... and when logged into the NAS and using it locally, there is no issue getting into all the folders and accessing its contents. I just can't do it over the network any longer. Windows Firewall is disabled on the NAS and there is no third-party software on it whatsoever that might be fubaring it- bare Windows XP Pro that I installed myself.
What gives? 😕
S:\Photos is not accessable
Access is denied.
