Quick and easy 7V fan mod

I posted on the silentpcreviews.com forums this nifty little procedure for modding your fans to 7V if you're using 3-pin to 4-pin Y-connectors. It took about 10 minutes from beginning to end and did an excellent job of quieting down my case albeit at the expense of a slight increase in temperature.

That's one way to do it. I prefer to put a 100 ohm rheostat in series with the fan to have full range control.

i just did it in my case a few days ago. really easy, and makes the fan virtually silent.
the case isn't moving as much air though, so now i've gotta get a front intake.
still, worth it for the silence.

Yes, that would also work. I just like this mod because it involved no soldering and it only took 10 minutes to do. You can set the fans to 7V or 5V using this trick. Beware of motor stall at below 7V though. I think the next mod is going to be to make the case less restrictive for these fans.
