Heh nice, very similar to mine. I've got 3 of those connected to 1W lensed luxeons in kind of a hydra looking lamp. Mine has the sense resistance cut down to ~1/3 ohm I think and higher gain on the amp. You may not need that MOSFET driver or the 5V regulator though.

That MCP34063 is a handy chip. Buck, Boost, Inverting, all in one.

You are right, i AHHRUMM (whispering) : "overdimensioned" it a bit. I had the parts laying around and was thinking of some feature use when upgrading the coil and other components.

But in all honesty : When it needs to be small, integrated solutions are avaliable :

For example the CAT4xxx series from ON semi.
