Quick and cheap HDD recovery?

I have a hard drive that failed; clicking and unreadable. The important stuff on there is backed up, but I have some odds and ends on there which will be a bit of a pain to reconstruct. Anything I can try that's quick and easy for stuff that is not all that important?

If you send the drive into a data recovery company it'll be very expensive.
