quick advice needed

core 2 duo e6850 3ghz
asus p5k-e xfire
corsair xms2 ddr800 pc6400
antec sonata 3 with 550watt psu
2x 500gb
evga 8800GT 512mb


i game on a 24" 1920x1200 res lcd

my current card is struggling with games like crysis and some other ones once i crank the settings

i was thinking bout upgrading or just buying a new pc
but

since my mobo is crossfire

would this be a good upgrade?
2x 4890 crossfire 1gb
or
gtx295

with a 750watt psu and add another 4gbs of ram

would my cpu be bottlenecking either of the card upgrades?
 
is the 550w p/s an antec? if so you could get away with crossfired 4850's or preferably 4770's. or you could just upgrade to the most powerful single card you can afford-a 4890 with some overclocking should be sweet.

your processor shouldn't be much of limiter for the time being, and you can probably go well past 3ghz with a good cooler.

I agree. Buy a single 4890 for 225.00
Keep your current psu.
Overclock your current cpu a little.
Sell your 8800gt for 75$
You'll double your game performance for 150.00$
Best bang for your buck!

Overclock your cpu first and see how high you can get it stable.
Buy one 4890 and see how it performs for you.
If you can't get that cpu to 3.5 or more don't bother crossfiring 4890's.
A 4890 is roughly= two 8800gt's.
 
I wouldn't Crossfire. The second PCI-e slot is only 4x and is generation 1.0/1.1. This will bottleneck a second HD4890 a bit and you wouldn't really get the full benefit of Crossfiring two powerful cards.

Just stick with a single card. Either the HD4890 or GTX275, and overclock them if you wish. Like mentioned you will at least double your performance.
