I suck at basic electronic / circuit theory

If I have a device that requires 12VDC 1000mA, will it work with a 12VDC 1200mA replacement?

Tip is positive on both and the barrel connector fits.

seems to function but i'm worried about long-term damage, etc.

thx

the current rating is just a max, not a constant supply. so if the adapters are in fact the same polarity, it will work fine without any problems

thx, sounds good to me. Same brand adapter, different model no (intended for another product) so everything else looks the same.

Yeah, the mA rating is kind of like "available supply", so you can go as high as you want. If it's below the mA rating of the device it won't work though.
