I was given an Asus A7V mobo. I have an Athlon XP 1800+ CPU collecting dust. Would it work? I checked the Asus site, and with a BIOS flash it should. How can I tell what board I have? The A7V, A7V-M, A7V-E, A7V133, A7V133-C??? All that is on the mobo iz A7V rev 1.02. I could put the CPU in and try to boot and see the BIOS screen, but don't want to damage the CPU. Any suggestions????

if it only says a7v rev 1.02 on the mobo then thats what you got :)

ive used a couple of those boards (several years ago) they only support 100mhz fsb (even though the motherboard has jumpers to set it for 133mhz fsb you wont be able to get it to work, the kt133 chipset just doesnt overclock that high, they usually only get around 110mhz) and since your xp1800+ runs on a 133mhz fsb it means that even if you get it to post on that board it will be running underclocked

but your main problem is that since you have rev 1.02 your board doesnt even support the duron (morgan) which is the same core as the athlonxp(palomino)

if you had a a7v rev 1.05 then you could probably get it to work, but it would be running underclocked... with rev 1.02 it probably wont even post

but.... all that being said, it wont hurt anything to try, it wont damage the cpu nor the motherboard if you install it and try to get it to post

Thanks Boonesmi. I was hoping there was a way. I'll try it tomorrow. I really want to put together a Linux box so I could be 3733t, but I didn't want to spend any $$.
