It looks like I will be picking up a A40 tommorow, and I have a quick question. I was just looking at a review on epinions, and one of the posters said he could not upload pics to his computer without the AC adapter, because the batteries did not supply enough power. This dosent seem to make sense to me. Anyone know the truth behind this?

I think someone has a bad case of technostupid. Ignore that. Otherwise check the forums over at DPReview and see if anyone else had that "problem". Sounds just plain illogical.

Not a problem but it does wear the batteries down faster. I just use a sandisk compact flash reader instead.

He probably just had weak batteries. I believe the A40 actually take AAs, but don't quote me on that.

I just picked up an s200 from Staples and it was only priced $12 over the a40 from OD. I like the s200 a lot better because it's so compact....both are nice cameras. (took a picture of a chicks boobies with it this morning...and for those who saw my threads...no worries...this one knew what I was doing ;) )

AC Adapter isn't required, reasonably charged batteries are. Buy two sets of good NiMH rechargeables; one for the camera and one for the charger so that you don't have to wait for them to recharge. I made that mistake the first time, didn't take me long to go get a second set.

I bought some Energizer 1850mA NiMH with a recharger that were on sale at Target where the camera was purchased. Despite the recharger being a 'slow' 15 hour type, I don't think it actually charged them fully the first two or three times.

They seemed to drain really fast the first two - three times I used them but now their life-span per recharge seems to be increasing. I can only conclude they weren't getting charged 100% the first couple times. I don't know if that's a trait of NiMH batteries or what, this is my first time using them.

pfft .,. he'll get the deal but, if his posts are accurate, he can't operate it.

I think the eopinions was trying to sell the AC Adapter. I've owned my A40 since it came out and never thought about buying the adapter.
