Just installed a western Digital 200 gig drive into an external USB 2.0 case.

XP see's 183 gigs before partitioning.

Should I just make one partition?

Keep it basic not dynamic right?

I'm just using this as a portable media drive/backup.

i don't understand why an external drive needs to be partition. just use nice folders. it's not in you computer, and prolly just to back up data.

my vote, no partition.

i was just thinking in the sense like I can encrypt one huge partition and keep like an 8 gig partition where i would initially moves files to then run antirus on there and then move to encrypted part.

Idea was that i would hate to get any viruses on this drive when i take it to friends or whatever's pc's

Then again, am i thinking like an idiot that i am?

If you're running an anti-virus on your system just make sure it has real-time protection and it should catch anything before it would even get copied to the external drive.
