im ordering a ultra-d and 3700 SD combo. i have the option to get a zalman 7000b. i will probaly OC sooner or later so i might want to have the extra cooling. should i get the zalman now with the combo or a xp-90/panaflo at a later time and just stick with the stock HSF for a while?

thanks for the input

The Zalman's are good, but last time I looked, monarch really overcharged for the HSFs they did offer. That might be different in this case, though.

Thats only $5 more than newegg's. The thermal goop is a little pricey, but now that I think about it, the whole thing very well may be worth it if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.

Then go for it! The Zalman is a good cooler. Monarch only put's HSFs that would be safe to ship, so no XP-90 or XP-120. They're huge!

I'm doing that combo thing, too, but mainly so I get the RAM tested (DFI is picky about RAM), newest BIOS to support my Venice core, and free Half-Life 2 :D
Gettings stock cooler though :(

Its really no that hard doing it yourself....

the only reason I considered it for my build was the farcry and hl2, but it would cost an extyra 30 bucks, and thats enough for hl2 anyways.

I didn't, I assume that since I bought a retail CPU and they say the motherboard is retail, I get the manufacturer warranty. Hopefully that applies to the RAM, as well.

I haven't bought from Monarch for that very reason, cannot find any info on warranties.

If you buy retail parts, you still get the manufacturers warranty. The reason one would buy Monarch's warranty for a retail CPU/MB, is that you can RMA thru Monarch during the warranty period vice the manufacturer.
If you go OEM, I would suggest the warranty as insurance. You might never need it, but you might. I had my retail 3000+ die on me, so it does happen.

About the thermal grease, don't buy it!! They will put it on for you, but they DO NOT send the rest. You are paying $14 for a one tme use. IMO that is complete BS, especially considering that they do not let you know that up front.
So if you ever need to remove/reinstall the HSF, you'll have to buy some more paste/grease anyways. Just buy some AS5 or Ceramique from jab-tech or SVC and put it on yourself when you receive the combo.
