I have a 1st gen XPS m170: 2005, Pentium M, 2.26 GHz, 2 GB Ram, NVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX, 1920x1200 screen, 100GB IDE/PATA 2.5" hard drive.
There are times when I travel with my laptop and I use it to play WoW. WoW load times are getting up there, and I have no experience with SSDs so I was wondering...
One: if I were to replace the old HD with a Transcend TS128GSSD25-M 2.5" 128GB PATA MLC Internal SSD ($385.00 at NewEgg) would it make a usable difference in WoW load times?
Two: I haven't heard if system requirements for Cataclysm will make this a moot point, but does any one know if Cataclism load times will bury my M170 even if a SSD improves my load times?
Three: I have read that it would be best for SSD drive performance to load a complete Backup Drive Image onto the new SSD, rather than load the OS (XP Media Center Edition) and programs from scratch. Is this true?
Further, I have looked at new laptops and find the new laptop LED screens to be glossy and highly reflective and not nearly as nice as the sweet screen on my old m170. Power savings aside, laptop screen visuals seem to have taken a step backwards. So I would rather spend $ for a new SSD at this point in time, rather than buy a new laptop, but only if the SSD will make a usable difference.
Thanks in advance for your information.
