QUESTIONS UNANSWERED: Radeon 9700!!

C, when I check the option to 'un-hide' all unsupported refresh rates...the max is 100???? Used to be 120 with the geforce4 card I had.

That IS odd, even my AIW7500 supports up to 200MHz @ 800X600 and 120MHz @ 1600 X 1200

Ok, got my 9700 pro in (retail ATi)... w/ my P4 @ 2.85, Ram @ 600, Radeon @ 380 core and 700 ram I got 16290 3dmarks...

not too shabby I suppose 😉 did some quick searches... think i've got the 21st highest score on ORB.... for whatever thats worth... ehh.

thats strage fkloster... if I uncheck the "unhide blah blah blah" I get a 120 setting w/ my card... btw, I have a Sony G400 if it makes any difference.

I bought the 9700 directly from ATI and it isnt Saphire, form what i have heard though is that saphire makes "powered by" ATI cards, not the actualy "built by" cards that ATI makes themsevles, casue sapphire also makes nvidia cards so it inst a sperate branch of ATI that is making the cards it is a diferent company.

From what I've heard, ALL the initial Radeon 9700 Pro cards regardless of brand are essentially manufactured by ATI, but that the manufacturers are very quickly switching to making their own and after that you will only be able to by "Built by ATI" cards directly from ATI.

I have RMA'd the card for another one because (I know this sounds impossible but...) I think the RAMDAC on the card is not the right one 😛 (who knows) I did a full reformat before 'charring' my mobo to find that my monitor that easily does 120 in 1152x864x32 but the card does not let the goodness happen... perhaps a quirky driver issue?

maybe its a quirky driver thingie.. however I wonder if it has anything to do that you got the OEM Saphire (I still dont understand the whole who makes what card issue). Anyway... my suggestion, and take it w/ a grain of salt, is to opt for the retail ATi card... as someone, i think, said above... saving a few bucks isn't worth the worry of getting screwed by ATi/Saphire. Ordering the 8500 OEM from newegg comes to mind... I thought it was a full clocked 8500 until newegg updates their site AFTER i order it to reflect the slower LE clock...

OK......I've got a rather disturbing developement I was hoping to avoid..........I've had my 9700Pro for about a week and it's great in my P4S533! Impressive as hell actually as far as B/M's are concerned. So, I finally get my SiS 648 board in this morning and go to set everything up..........big problem I had read about yesterday................the 9700 will absolutely NOT work in this board.........I can put my 8500 or my Ti4600 in the board and all is fine, but, put the 9700 in and nothing. So, I wonder if I've blown something on this brand new card and go put it back in the P4S533..........works fine! It seems that the 9700 works fine in AGP4X boards but will not do anything in an AGP8X board! I did some more searching and it seems this problem is creeping up all over now that AGP8X boards are coming out. Anyone got an idea??????

LOL! An AGP 8x Card not working in an AGP 8x motherboard! That's just like activation in XP - it's OK to change memory, video, sound, modem, network, hard drive, even processor! But, when a brand new Mobo goes in - arrrrgggghhhh! Re-install 60GB of info, games, music, pr0n etc!
