Questions to those of you with macs.

I really want to get a G4 1GHz imac. My main question is how is web browsing on a mac? Are there lots of sites that don't render properly or what?
And if you don't like apple computers then just keep your opinions to yourself please.

EDIT: I forgot to add that I'd be using the Safari browser.

I don't own a Mac, but I would say that is all dependent on the Browser itself. I know there are a few. (Safari, IE)
So, you might want to read up on those browswers specifically.

i have Safari, Mozilla, and Chimera on my Mac and i have never come across a website that none can handle. Mozilla has some issues with a few sites, just like he PC version.

I'm a PC fan but I use Macs at my office. My machine is a 933 MHz G4 w/ 512 RAM OS 9.2 and I am not impressed with web browsing on it. I do ecommerce work so much of my day is spent with multiple IE windows open. I've found that the machine has a really hard time processing data from multiple windows at once. I have to pull data from one, wait till it's finished, then pull from another. If I pull from two at the same time, I can definitely expect a big delay. Three or more and I usually lock up the system or zero data comes across. However, with the PCs in the office, they have no problem whatsoever pulling multiple data streams all at once. We have a T1 connection here so I know it's not a speed issue.

However, to Mac's credit, my girlfriend has a the exact same machine at her home running OS Jaguar and surfing with Safari. She has an Earthlink cable modem and her web browsing flies. Multiple windows pulling all at the same time...no problem. Perhaps it's IE? Perhaps it's OS 9.2? My observations aren't very scientific, but I thought I'd mention them anyway.

IE on OS 9 sucks, it crashes and can causes system problem, try Mozilla it's better.
However if you're on OS X, you cant use IE or safari, IE maybe better for now but safari is coming along ...

I use Mozilla (actually, the "Firebird" project) on my PC - so I would likely use Mozilla for MacOS if I were using that.

i'm a mac user, 800mhz G3, 640mb RAM, iBook. generally i use safari and i've never come across a problem, sometimes i switch and use mozilla for the heck of it. and yes there are some sites that safari and mozilla has trouble viewing, but that goes for IE or netscape as well. So i guess it's all dependent on your preferences.

Your problem is in your first sentence...OS9.2. My main machine is a Dual GHz w/ a gig of PC2700 running 10.2.6 and it flies. I use mozilla for everything and I don't have any problems. Speedwise I find it comparable if not slightly faster than my 1700+ o/c'd to 2.0 GHz (200 fsb and 1 gig of PC3200) using IE

Mozilla and Safari both work well. They render pages as well or better(faster) than IE in my experience. I use Safari on my iBook primarily.
