I am looking to build a SCSI system and right now have decided on the following hardware.

SCSI Card: Tekram DC-390U3W or Tekram DC-390U3D
SCSI HD: Seagate Cheetah X15-36LP
SCSI CD Rom: Plextor 40xMAX or 40xWIDE

Between the two SCSI cards what is the difference between the two?

My questions are between the Plextor 40x MAX and 40xWide what is the difference between the two drives? such as which one is the better performer and which one would work with this SCSI card?

And regarding SCSI cables do I just purchase a 68-Pin 2 Device and do I need a terminator also? (also could someone explain what it is for?)

Or should I just go with the WD1200JB

Thanks!!

1) the U3W card has two U160 channels while u3d has one u160 and 1 uw. For you, it won't matter as you have only one U160HD
2)Plex 40Max is 50 pin while 40Xwide is 68 pin. Now, you can buy either one but I would recoomend the 50 pin as most optical drives are 50 pin and both the cards above have a 50 pin connector that you can use. For performance, I have no idea but interface is not going to be a factor here.
3) no you need a 68 pin u160 cable with a terminator and a 50 or 68 pin cable depending on which plex you buy. You can not have both the HD and the CD on the same channel and expect LVD operation. The CD will slow down the channel.
4) depends on you.

the plextor max runs on the 50 pin cable and the ultrawide runs on the 68 pin cable. if you do any cd burning get the ultrawide. it can read and defeat all cd audio encrpytion on the market. celien dions cd burns and rips find on my ultrawide.
