Questions regarding power needed for Chaintech VNF4

Hey guys. I'm really close to pulling the trigger on THIS board right here, but I have some questions regarding what type of power supply is needed. In another thread I saw some people mentioning that this board requires a 20 pin power connector, so does that mean I'll have to buy a special power supply to fit?

Also, will this board paired with a A64 3200+ and a 6600GT be very power hungry? I was planning on getting the Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case and using the power supply that comes along with it. Will that be enough? I don't plan on doing any overclocking. Here is a link to the case/powersupply I'm talking about: Here

i can't imagine that psu not being able to power your rig.
heres a link to the adapter you will need if the atx pins on your psu don't match your motherboard.

good luck with your build and i hope you can find that VNF4 in stock

no that's fine if you're not overclocking. A64 uses less than 50W.. cards about 60...

PS if you are overclcoking do not buy that mobo.

Great, thanks guys. Not planning on overclocking, but I want to have a PCI-e board so hopefully this will fit all my needs.

Hey, I have a question on the adapters you linked to. I think I'll need the converter of the 20 pin to 24 pin, but what is the other cable needed for..I'm not sure what the 4 pin to 8 pin is used for?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I'm thinking of getting this board and would be overclocking.

Why is this board no good with overclocking??

Delta makes a nice EPS12v power supply that I use with the Chaintech. It's about $80, but its 450 watts and is a true EPS power supply. Note that it is about 3" LONGER than a ATX power supply so it may not fit in many cases.

Depending on what and where you read, it may not be a good idea to use a 20-pin PSU for an extended period of time even though it may work. Some things I read said don't do it under any circumstances; others seemed to think it wasn't a big deal. To quote Tom's Hardware, "It fits, but does it work? Well that's up to the board maker..." I had the same dilemma as you, having recently bought an Antec Sonata case that came with a nice 20-pin 380W PSU. I decided not to chance it.

I'm now using a $37 450W Black NSpire ATX 2.0 PSU with mine (24-pin) and it's working great. NSpire is certainly generic but I've worked with a lot of them and have been consistently impressed by their price and performance. I have used more of these than I have Antec or Enlight PSUs, but I've seen two Antec and several Enlight PSUs go south and have never experienced a problem with an NSpire.
