Questions regarding Mini-team startup.

I've decided to tap the resources of the group of people who visit my website, average of 2K visitors per month.

The theme of the site is pretty popular around my region and i was thinking that promoting a mini-team on RC5 for TA based on that would be pretty useful.

So how would i go about starting it?

Firstly, me and the rest of my assimilations are currently cracking under my main e-mail but i would like to change the e-mail to the website's e-mail instead. If i change the target e-mail, how do i go about transferring all the currently completed blocks in the current stats?

2nd, i was wondering whether it would be possible for all the others in the mini-team to view their stats. Anyway for that? Or do i have to set up a proxy? If so, does it have to be run 24/7? Also, how do i go about setting that up?

Any help would be appreciated! :)

<< When retiring an e-mail, all accumulated and all FUTURE blocks from the old e-mail go to the new e-mail! >>

Saw Engineer's post about it somewhere. Does that continue indefinitely? By the way, how do i retire an address into another?

Since the majority of the potential crackers from my surfer base are probably TV potato couches, is there anyway i can let them download a preconfigured client that already has the e-mail for the team ready?

First you gotta tell me the email and team name so I can add you to my FAQ ;)

You can just retire the email into a new one. I think someone said once theyve had clients going for months on the old email and they are still getting dumped to the new one. But Dnet does say it is not indefinatly.

You should ask Jator, or one of the other proxy guys, about the stats. Im sure they will have plenty of info for you

I don't know much about RC5 but if you run a pproxy It'll need to run all the time and I don't think there's a way to track individuals on miniteams especially if they have dynamic ip's.

Yes, RC5 can be preconfigured where the user does nothing to join the miniteam but install the client and that's it. You can also have it install hidden with no setup needed.:)

Sorry you'll have to wait on one of the RC5 guys to tell you how. I just know Russ has done it for the Borg and the new SetiMini RC5 team.:)

For the client setup disks, grab it from here and just change the email to your team email and it should be fine.

Dang, i had an interesting ICQ chat with an old Utopia (the online game at http://games.swirve.com/utopia/) alliance mate. Was planning to assimilate him but to my horror....

ME: ever tried RC5?

HIM: It's always on...Join the Dutch Power Cows!

ME: I knew it! You're in DPC??

HIM: I'm Dutch....Of course I'm in DPC. :)
Where are you?

ME: Guess what team i'm in?

HIM: AT? :)

ME: Right oN!

ME: What's your current keyrate?

HIM: I don't know...We're not going that hard...Only about 2k blocks or something.

ME: You or the team? The DPC is currently doing 2.2 mil blocks per day.

HIM: Myself....DPC is about 2.5M a day I think...

ME: oh my, how many computers do you have in your herd?

HIM: 4...Mine, my 2 roomies and a laptop

ME: Lucky you.

ME: Did you see that? the Japanese Linux Users team got 1st in the dailies for today. 2.5 million blocks! I think it was a megaflush

HIM: WHAAAAT!?!?
That can't be! :)

ME: DPCs did 2.3 million blocks lost by 0.2 mil. Don't worry too much, it was a once in a few months mega flush. Cannot compare with you guys' MF6

HIM: Het moest er eens van komen... en gisteren was het, na 64 dagen op nummer 1 gestaan te hebben zover: een ander team wist de eerste plaats te veroveren...

'It had to happen one time....And yesterday it was...After 64 days in a row on no. 1: Another team conquered 1st place'
I wonder when MF7 is planned. :)
2.3M is not that high as well. :(

And not even 1M more than AT...

ME: Grr, must get TA to do one of these too. But it's a strain on the dnet servers.

HIM: Yeah....They state here that it'll take 74 days to catch /. and 113 days to catch AT

ME: TA did only 1.3 plus mil yesterday. You guys did nearly 1 mil more than us!

HIM: We want to have 1M more each day. :)

ME: Don't worry, we'll give you more competition than that. :)

HIM: Sounds good....I think it's good that those Japs beat us yesterday...Now we're regrouping and assimilating more PCs to get higher keyrates. :)

HIM: Where are you btw?

ME: TeamAnandtech.

HIM: I know...but your participant state...:)

ME: Ahh, i'm currently in the process of transferring to my own mini-team.

HIM: Aha...We're the Cool Kiwi Clan of course..:)
Only 1600 blocks yesterday tho
We've got pretty good PCs. :)
Hey, I gotta go...Cya. :)

ME: c'ya

Thanks mindless! I grabbed all 4 copies and saved to floppy. The regular ones for my friends and the service ones for the school labs which i'm determined to assimilate after my exams.

Did some calculation at Mika's page and if i can assimilate all of the lab computers, i'd get 50.7 Mk/sec or 16322 WU/day.

I'll probably talk to the lab tech and give em my RC5 advertisement speech. But i was also wondering that suppose i don't tell them, would they be able to monitor the CPU load of the individual machines remotely?

I wouldn't sneak it on the machines, it's against Dnet rules and CPU usage will be checked sooner or later. They will be PO'ed if you don't clear it with them first and may report it to Dnet. Just polish that speech up and hope he is a Star Trek fan. :)

Ok, i've never liked the sneaky methods anyway. :)

What if i recommend the tech guy to have all the lab machines flush to a pproxy? Does this enable him to monitor the output of every machine? Cause the school is trying to prevent the students from playing games and this might be one useful way to track which system is hogging CPU resources.

EDIT: Just assimilated another fellow Singaporean with a TBird 750Mhz over ICQ as i'm typing this post. Sent him the preconfigured client. Thank God...erm..Russ for those thingies.

So since it's rather difficult for me to let the individual members see their stats, is there any way for me to allow them to see the progress of teh mini-team? Or do i have to manually copy the daily info and put it up on my site?

OH No!, i found out that Russ's generic preconfigured client doesn't add RC5 to the startup group! At least in WinME, it doesn't.

jinsonxu,

If you use the "standard" version, it sure does add a shortcut to the startup group. I'm cooking two Me systems right now that I installed it on.

This's weird. I just uninstalled my dnet client and went through the procedures i'm telling the rest of my mini-team. Downloaded the client unzipped it, but forgot that it wants a floppy. So i unzipped into a floppy and ran setup.bat. All was well. input the e-mail and the client downloaded the packets. then i shutdown and restarted the computer. The client doesn't load and checking the startup group and msconfig didn't yield any results. No RC5 being loaded anywhere.

jinsonxu,

Which one of the disks did you download? I'll take a look at it and see if maybe there's something wrong with the batch file.

jinsonxu,

I just downloaded and tested it on two different Me machines and it worked perfectly. Did you change anything on the disk?

Call me Jinson

No, i didn't change anything. I downloaded to my desktop, unzipped to a floppy, started setup.bat from the floppy. copied 6 files, client loaded, configured the e-mail, started the client up and it downloaded the work units. then i shutdown the client. The batch file completed, i checked the startup folder, Zlich.

HMM...well, I don't know what's going on. The ONLY way it wouldn't copy the shortcut to the startup group is if you have a different file structure than any other Me machine. This is the line in the batch file that sets up the shortcut:

copy a:\dnet.lnk c:\windows\startm~1\programs\startup

Do you by, by any chance, have your Windows install on a drive other than c:\?
