questions re: speakers

Hi, all. Since I'm seeking space efficient speakers, I've researched my options and narrowed down the field to models from:

Altec Lansing
Cintre
Cyber Acoustics
DCT
Kinyo
LabTec
Sony

Now I have several questions:

(1) Some of these have as little as 2-4 watt output, while the Cintre and DCT have 220-250 watt output.
What do watts signify? Can 200 watts radiate alot of EMF's compared to 2-4 watts?

(2) What's so significant about "power adapter - no batteries needed? Till now, I've had built-in speakers in my KDS monitor, so I'm unfamiliar with adapter VS no-adapter.

(3) What's the difference between specs which mention "cable" and other specs which mention "power adapter"?

(4) Can I be assured that any speakers I get would be compatible with my system-plus-monitor? If not, what should I be alert for?

(5) Is magnetic shielding a HUGE factor in determining what to buy? (do they shield from EMFs?

(6) These are what I narrowed down. Any recommendations from among the below?

LabTec Spin-50
DCT OG-691 $5 NewEgg - 250watts, magnetic shield
Cintre RW-695 $3 NewEgg - 220watts, magnetic shield
Cyber Acoustics CA-15 $13 NewEgg - 3 watts, magnetic shield
LabTec Spin-55 $13 NewEgg - 2 watts, power adapter
Sony SRS-PC21 $5 - power adapter

Also, due to their design, space-efficiency, & writeups, these seemed intriguing, BUT:
Kinyo KP 5PC (on Epinions, BUT no stores carry it)
Altec Lansing AVS 200 (not sure that the low-priced online stores accept personal check

Lets narrow the field, more info may help you get some answers

1- What are you going to use the speakers for.....games, CD, casual etc..
2 - What do you have for an audio card ....
3- Roughly how much do you want to spend......

Well, no games, no CD, but sometimes I listen to MIDI's that I downloaded. Also sometimes real-time mini videos on news websites.

Re: Audio, in my System Device section, it says ES1869 Plug 'n Play. Is that the audio card?

Now, for how much I want to spend? How about free? 😀

Seriously, I've narrowed down the field further to:

Either the Cyber Acoustics CA-15, which I can get from Newegg together with the flat-panel monitor - thus getting both in the same shipping.
(See: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=Cyber+Acoustics+CA-1

Or else the Sony SRS-PC.

Which of these would you recommend, and are there any pitfalls I might not realize, as a novice?

Or do you recommend one of the others I listed, more than the Cyber & Sony? Such as the Altec AVS200?

Note....more expensive brands often actually have lower advertised ratings....the sound quality is generally better and often they tend to be louder than cheap companies who use PMPO (peak music performence output) ratings rather than RMS (real music sound).

But this is not always the case....prime comparison is Creative with their 2W + 2W speakers and JNC with there 480W Speaker set....both of which sound identical.
