MB Intel D865GBF with on board Extreme Graphics 2.
Pentium 4 2.8C 800mhz. BX80532PG2800D
Maxtor 120GB 7200 SATA Model: 6Y120MO
Maxtor 160GB 7200 SATA Model: 6Y160MO
Crucial 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-3200 - x2 - Model CT3264Z40B
LG Electronics DVD+/-RW Mulitformat Drive, Mod: GSA-4081B,
SONY BLACK 16X DVD-ROM Drive, Model DDU1612/B2,
SONY MPF920 Black 1.44MB 3.5INCH Floppy Disk Drive,
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
ANTEC Black ATX Mid-Tower 350W Power Supply, Model "SLK3700-BQE"

I am upgrading from a PIII 450 / Win98SE to the above and will be ordering the above sometime next week.

I?ve spent hours with Google reading various forums and reviews and this will be my first ?not store-bought? computer and I need comments / suggestions re compatibility of the components on how I plan to use the
computer.

I do not play games (sorry) and my main use will be word processing, web surfing, digital photography and video editing.

Two main questions I have are the above MB or the Abit AI7 ? and the following question re Graphics -

Can I get by with the Extreme Graphics 2 on the Intel MB or should I consider either of the following Video cards ?

CHAINTECH GeForce4 MX440-8X Video Card,
64MB DDR, 64-bit, TV-Out, 8X AGP, Mod: LA-G482

Albatron GeForce FX 5200 Video Card, 128MB DDR,
64-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "FX5200EP"

(I don?t really need Video In as my video editing will be from a PVR on DVD-RAM to the LG DVD Burner).

Thanking you in advance for as many comments as possinle,

B regards,

Roy

Can I suggest getting two 512MB modules instead of two 256MB modules? Even with Windows2000, I can blow through over 700MB of RAM doing image editing on high-resolution images (think 25 layers of Undo here). Video editing will probably benefit from that too.

If you haven't already got one, also consider getting a USB 2.0 card reader that accepts the memory cards your camera uses. They can go in a 3.5" bay on the case if you like, and you can plug the card in like a floppy diskette. I have a separate palm-sized CompactFlash adapter thing but it's not nearly as nice, although it is portable.

As you may be aware, there will be a price drop in the next few days on the processor, so hold on for that :)

I forgot to mention this asus M/B has an AGP slot if you wish to upgrade to GPU CARD LATER you do not have to disable on board GPU and you get the added benny's of another monitor hook up not bad A+
