Questions on O/Cing NW 1.8a w/ Asus P4B266-C

Ok, I've got a NW 1.8A with a Asus P4b266 and I've got a few questions on overclocking.

Is it possble to overclock the CPU and still keep everything else running within spec? I think I read somewhere that if you run the fsb at 133mhz, everything else runs within spec? Is this true?

What settings do I need to change in the P4B266 bios when I overclock? I know I raise the fsb from 100mhz and increase the voltage if necessary, but do I need to change any other settings? Like perhaps memory?


Well, I tried overclocking by setting the fsb to 133mhz, but it wouldn't even post. I tried raising the voltage to 1.7, but it was a no go. Maybe I needed to change some other settings? Everything else is set to default.

Why don't you start with 115 or 120 first and see if you can boot. Work your way up from there. Your CPU may not do 133 FSB. Also check your memory ratio.
 
Yeah a 133 MHz FSB runs everything @ spec (make sure memory ratio is 1:1 and not 3:4) automatically. However, your CPU might not be able to take that much of an o/c (600 MHz of an overclock!). You can try a 125 MHz FSB, it actually runs everything a tiny bit under spec (31 MHz PCI clock vs usual 33 MHz) and only o/c's the CPU to 2.25 GHz (still very impressive). That's the setting I run right now.

Are there any downsides to running the PCI bus out of spec? Like possbile data curruption or instability? Are these only possbile if you are way out of spec?
 
I have a 1.8A and a P4b266-C and i find that the most stable speed is 2250 (125 * 18) at 1.625 V. My memory settings are at 3:4 and I have it at 2-2-2-6 using crucial memory. I also have it set to Turbo Mode 1, for some reason it requires less Voltage for me when its set to Turbo 1 ( I have no idea what it doest though). I could only get my 1.8A to boot ata 133fsb if i uppped the voltage to 1.775 (max the board will do). Wish i got the 1.6A..
