Will these be packaged or priced differently??? I mean are they going to be sold as a different model or thrown intheo stocks of winchester chips??? If they are separate what do ppl think the speculated prices of these will be versus their winchester bretheren???

I would like one, but if Ihave to play the luck game or the overpriced out-of-stok game like ATI PCI-e cards I will be waiting for awhile.....

They have a different model number, but they are packaged the same. I think they mean for Venice to be a drop in replacement of winchester. It's introduction will prolly be similar to when Winchester replaced Newcastle. I speculate the 3200+ will have a $20 premium over the winchester.

Totally guessing here

Surely retailers will be forced to list them seperately by core when they have multiple cores for one speed rating as they do now for Newcastle, Winchester, Clawhammer etc... If they don't it would be a huge mistake IMO

As far as price I would say we will see something like the diff in s754 and s939 chips when S939 first came out. At first they will sell a for large premium over the older core but as time rolls on the gap will shrink. This will be affected of course by how the Venice chips performs, if it proves to be only a minor improvement the premium may shrink quickly. But as we all hope, it has a much improved mem controller, and provides a couple of hundred extra mhz in O/C the premium may never shrink.

I,m guessing the 3200+ will introduce at $50 more than the Winchester

Well I can take a 20 dollar premium....

I dont plan on selling this winnie in case I get a dud. So as long as the 3200+ venice is not over 2500+ for an OEM I will be fine...

According to this German site, the Venice 3500+ CPU cost 389.90 CHF, which equates to $324.20 USD. Current 3500+ Newcastles/Winchesters/Clawhammers will all run you about $260.

So there arn't actually any overclocking results yet on venice cores, correct? It seems interesting that Winchesters will dissapear next week, but i guess thats the way it works...Wouldn't it be interesting if the winnies ceased to exist and venice's were shoddy OCers? hmm, cross your fingers. We will know soon enough.

wow, thats a pretty big gouge on the 3500's...if the 3000+ take a $30 hit people will be complaining, i hope they drop off fast...

NO...there is a few gentlemen who have had a venice core winchesters for a few weeks now...A 3800+ and a couple of 3500's....Most got them to 3ghz and beyond, but still uncertain if 3ghz with air will be common...

It is either a venice or a winchester...

But the guys you are talking about are over at xtremesystems.org, check the amd section. The threads you speak of are both stickied.

Btw it is a Venice core :

ADA3800BPBOX
ADA3500BPBOX

=)

Nah bro. Winchesters were started out around week 30 of 2004. Build date wise. Best cores were seen around weeks 39ish-48ish. Some other good ones came after that, but majority were seen in those weeks. CBBID winchester cores tend to not o/c well compared to their earlier build brothers.

'Tis the way of computer hardware. A few months of glory, then move along it's time for a new 'big man' to step into the spotlight.

I'm planning to get a 3800 to play with (assuming its around current price levels) with a zalman 7700, I'd be happy with 3 ghz. I'll also see what I can do with 2 gigs of ocz plat revision 2. :)

Duvie - I would assume they will list the cores as venice, since all the other cores have been defined, at least on the sites I'd shop from. As for price I'll bet they will start out with a markup and drop once supply is plentiful. Knowing newegg they will probably shoot up quite a bit after the initial purchase rush :(

Yeah, I don't know why I even bother holding out for something new...it's just going to be old in a matter of weeks, anyway.

But I am interested in seeing how the prices play out...since I plan on upgrading to 2GB (4 DIMMs) eventually, the improved memory controller with the Venice core is looking nice....

If I get the new Venice CPU, I'm hoping my mobo will support it right out of the box without having to update the BIOS.

They will, or at least you will be able to see the code

ADA3800BPBOX is what you want to see for 3800. If not a quick call can usually figure things out.

I might get a 3800 to play with depending on prices, if not a 3500 or 3200 will be what I scoop. Unless there is some serious price gouging I plan on scooping one as soon as they are available. Will test against my FX 53 once I get that back from RMA.

Will have to see what plays nicer with my OCZ PC-4800 Plat(No reviews on it yet, except a couple members at xs, ram is so new that my set is the 8th one made lol). This+ DFI NF4+ X850XT= Some hella fun in CS:S/D3/WoW/etc =).

What mobo do you have? The DFI supports them, I also believe Epox, and MSI have no problems with them. This is all NF4 from what I have heard. Everything is hearsay atm though until I can get my hands on one to play with.

The mobo is the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. It's in the mail, actually. This is my first build. As far as I know, it should POST and everything just fine without having to update any BIOS....maybe it just needs to be updated to take advantage of the new features on the Venice chip. Of course, since I'm just getting the mobo now, maybe it's shipping with the newest BIOS version already installed.

Usually doesn't ship with the newest bios. I think ASUS wouldn't respond when asked about venice compatibility. I'm sure it will be though. If it isn't compatibile without a bios update it won't post.

Newegg lets you sort the CPUs by their core name, so I would think sites like that would be easy to grab a guaranteed Venice.

Well NF3 ultra Neo2 is confirmed!!! Otherwise the guy at extreme wouldn't been able to do what he did with the chip....
