Hello everyone 1st post here,

i bought like less than a month ago a full new build with a ryzen 9 3950x and an x570 aorus master mobo, Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 for cooling and G.Skill Ripjaws V 3600mhz cl16 as memory (so you know the setup in case it might come from there)
I don't really want to do an overclock or else, but looking at HWiNFO64 & Ryzen master, i don't see any core going above 4.2ghz

what's even weirder, stock/default config is better than pbo or auto overclock even with the 200mhz, i don't understand xD i'm a developper, im into computer but not heavy background in hardware so i might miss something

ill include later more screen if needed, only including actual "settings" so you can tell me if you spot anything weird (sorry if french bother you there is no config option to change that and i didnt want to reinstall for screenshots :p)

i'm not looking for 4.7ghz on all core or specifically to see a 4.7, but best i could reach was like 4.5 when doing "game mode" which disable one CCD, but nothing more ... that feel strange to me, i tested many things and i can't get that out of my head, so feel free to tell me what you think !

If it's like other Gigabyte boards with dual BIOS, sometimes for no apparent reason it will switch to the 2nd BIOS chip, which will have an older BIOS version on it. There are usually 2 sets of DIP switches on the board to manually control which chip is used.

yeah i saw the switches on the board but i never remember switching it so thats why i was surprised
anyway, 4.575 is far better than 4.225 im so happy :D its still not perfect but its what i was thinking more or less from what i could expect

edit: 4.625mhz ! looking after some time xD, well after tweaking bios, it looks like it was effectively the bios version T_T, thanks everyone for advices and taking time to help me !

ok im still reinstalling everything but cinebench doesnt go higher than 4.2ghz still on hwinfo for a single core test, cant quote everyone but thanks for the answers i still read them on my phone x)

I would focus more on the scores you get than the reported clockspeeds. Glad you managed to get better boost clocks regardless.

For my own curiosity: did the voltage tweaks I asked you to do change your Cinebench R20 MT score by much? What were the before and after scores?

ill apply them again but no it wasnt a big change, i did a cine bench with your tweak and new bios, then removed tweaks, and result were almost the same

for clarity ill do 2 screenshot and apply tweak again later so that you could see but it wasnt a difference more than 100 points with a base of 9100~ if i remember correctly

ok here is the screenshots

edit:
but as a gamer i don't feel like a win, i see that i lost like 100mhz on hwinfo even if it doesnt reflect on cinebench, i feel it like its not a big difference anyway on multi core so i'll revert the tweak

one thing i'm not sure, you tell about setting 2 thing to normal, but offset only one, did i understand correctly ? you can see exactly the changes i did in bios anyway

edit2: after some tests i succeed a 9236 score on multi with full auto with pbo, so i feel full auto is better from my tests but almost the same as with your tweaks
but thanks for your help, if you have any tests or recommendations ill gladly take them :)

@Grochtek

Okay, so it seems like the tweaks bought you maybe 200 points in MT score. If you'd rather go with PBO, go right ahead. Whatever works for you.

@DrMrLordX

Well, in "edit2" i wrote that i did some more tweaks and cinebench runs, i scored even 30 points higher than your tweaks, so it feels like the same result anyway :x

Yeah I know. Personally I'll take the extra performance I get lowering voltage over whatever I can get from PBO (which tends to raise voltage and power consumption). PBO actually lowers my MT scores too which is messed up. Maybe that's from me running an older UEFI.

I'll second this, PBO can get a little weird on my setup with a 3900x. After a little while it will kickup voltages to maintain clockspeed, forcing my more than adequate cooling (H100i) to struggle which will cause the CPU to throttle which will lower the score. Where if it acted like it wasn't in PBO, it would have the same clocks and would just hover for a much longer time and very slowly start to downclock. PBO seems better for the single CCD chips and is better for ST clocks on on 2x CCD chips at the cost of MT.
