Well I haven't really had a career goal in the past, couldn't figure out what i wanted to do. But leaning towards this because I think I could be good at it, and the money seems like it would be good.

So I'm wondering about the different specific areas of work, and the training needed, avg pay, and the things you actually do on the job( I have an idea, but want info from people that actually do this for living).

So what's needed training wise, both as a minimum and recommended. (school here offers like 9 or 10 month programs and from the descriptions there, the 2 I'd be most interested in are: Computer Network Technician and Network Software Engineer, with a preferance toward the first).

So with those two above, or other good areas what is the typical pay, and what all do you do on the job.

Just general info about myself I'm intelligent, can grasp complex concepts, and a good problem solver with the right knowledge available. I'm not really a creative person, so that rules out stuff like web design ect.

Thanks.

1.) You seem overly concerned about the pay. If you take a job for the money you're not going to be happy most likely.
2.) Look at some job ads in your area and see what positions like those are around to see what they pay in your area and what the education requirements are.
3.) I think often you'll find that experience is valued just as much as education. A BS in Comp Sci will often help get you a job, but so will a few years of experience in the field. I'd venture to say that 9-10 month programs are pretty worthless. Get some certification even if you want, or just go for a real college degree.

Any idea how much school you need to become a Java programmer or a Network Intrusion Specialist?

To get a job in that field now your going to need on the job experience of over 2 years.
Not a good time to just get started on it.
