questions on hooking 55" LCD TV to computer

i have a LG 55" LCD TV that i want to try and hook up to my computer. i have a long enough HDMI cable to do so and my receiver has a connection for it ( Onkyo RC270 ) how would i go about setting this up? what resolution would it use? i have crossfired 6950's so i think they should be able to handle it. thanx to any that reply

I have a 4850 hooked up to my 52" LG - works great.
I use 1366x768 in Windows because 1920x1080 makes everything way too small. XBMC is set up to automatically switch to 1920x1080 when viewing HD movies.
