I think everyone was pretty much caught with their pants down... most of the civilian ships for destroyed first thing. in the pilot movie, the cylons were able to disable the electronic mechanisms on ships; the only reason the galactica wasn't affected was because it was an older ship that wasn't completely automated.

Cain only managed to save the Pegasus because most of its systems were down in preparation for refit. She blind jumped the ship from the shipyard when the Cylons attacked.

They had a raptor waiting for signals at all times, they did not land on the planet for fear the cylons would retaliate on the populace.

A couple of raptors can't have been the entire human resistance, can it?

On (3) I meant send a raptor back to the original 12 colonies, not NC.

As far as question 3, at that point they were quite far from the colonies, it may be a question of fuel or lack of man power. Also any scout could be traced back to them which would be bad.

I think the point is, they want to kill all humans to ensure that they won't face retaliation in the future. During the whole NC event, more moderate elements were in control who thought they could pacify humans, but after the flight from NC, I'd bet that the extremists are back and now they REALLY think it's important to guarantee the humans don't seek revenge.

My bet on what happens:

1. Earth is the earth of today or the near future.
2. The cylons will be surprised to find that the religion of earth largely mirrors their own.
3. The cylons will discover the earth's toleration of religious diversity and peace will be made.

#3) Is the 13th colony the actual SETTLERS of earth or did they come upon Earth already inhabited?

From what I take, earth is the origin of humans and after millenniums of BS, they just want to come home to mommy and daddy.

Furthermore, the fleet is hinted to be one of many. Example being when the BSG fleet ran into the Pegasus fleet.

Not realistic, but much more realistic than any other Scifi series that has made it on TV.

All the data I have on that is that exec producer Moore has stated that the people who heard the song have no idea who or where it came from.

Assuming that the song was broadcasted from Earth, it would take a long time to reach the current location of the human fleet. My wife mentioned that NASA or some other organization has been broadcasting signals into space--anyone got info on that, such as whether 'Watchtower' was one of the songs?

they did it in the pilot as an inside joke about having to cut corners to save money... now they're just kinda stuck with it. lol.
