Questions for the Linux fans

I thought about messing around with Linux. I have some questions.
1. Will my HP 832c printer work
2. Will my Hp Scanner work
3. How hard is it to install the 3d drivers for nvidia cards
4. will my burner work ( strickly a hardware question )
I guess what I am asking did u have a hard time with your hardware. I am just another brainwashed MS monkey. I have been around since dos and win3.1 , but I have gotton used to just hooking up a piece of hardware and it works ( most of the time ) BUT I guess im board I like fiddling around and tweaking with my comp. more than actually using it 🙂

3putt: you are one of millions who has these questions, and as such there are some sites catered directly toward you. www.linuxnewbie.org is one. I think www.freshmeat.com is too.

as for you questions (though i make no claim to be a linux expert)

1.) if you can find driver support for it (always the key issue with linux) Check the website for linux-specific drivers.
2.) same as above.
3.) driver instalation is more complicated, exactly how hard depends on your knowledge of linux, detailed hardware settings, and driver code. In otherwords, a hefty step up from windows.
4.) Depends on the burner, and like 1 and 2 weather or not it has driver support.

If you want to seach, just use www.google.com, type in the hardware name and "linux" and you should get a bunch of links telling you if the hardware will work.

SCSI scanners and LPT printers have a higher chance of working, but USB support is getting better and better.
