What really helped my brother and I get things going was a free 3 hour workshop offered in our area. From what I understand these workshops are offered across the country so it might be worth checking out if one is around you.

Anyway, here is the link for the workshop we went to. Hope it helps and good luck on your new venture.

interesting, i'll see if there is anything around here like that.

i'm 3 eps into that podcast from gimlet, i'm really liking it so far. going to listen to a lot of it at work tomorrow.

Have you thought of business oriented college classes? That would be the direction I'd head due in large part I know business can be a very complicated thing with all the legal/financial aspects. I would want to have a good footing to go on.

I'm an inventor myself, but I need the capital to hire a patent agent, apply for the patent and market.

since you seem to know this stuff, what is the actual process to get an NDA and is there a standard fee or does it vary?

Like most things in life you can probably get it done with a simple google search for an example. That said, you might get what you pay for and end up with an agreement that doesn't cover what you need it to. I doubt there is any 'standard' fee amongst the millions of lawyers out there, but you could probably get a good NDA drafted in the $500 - $1000 range.

Do not Google anything that might be an original concept you might want to develop, especially if it's software related, because your searches are being cached on their servers, virtually forever, and they can access it whenever they want to, even to steal an idea.

Use an anonymous search engine that does not store your search history forever like http://startpage.com

Why is everyone afraid to post their million dollar ideas for new businesses here?

It's not like anyone here has access to millions in VC money to get a jump on you. Besides, we might have some valuable feedback on how to improve the concept.

(Or, more likely, we'll find a half dozen startups that are trying something similar and are failing at it)

But, hey, if someone here actually HAS access to big VC money, let me know! I have this great idea for an online travel planner that I would love to run by you 🙂

err I told him he could google for a non-disclosure agreement example, not to google his idea.
