How do I switch between apps that are open...ala...ios double tap home button?
When I'm at a website..I want to select a portion of text and copy and paste it into an email?

Thanks. Just got a new phone and I'm a little confused.

1 Copy text
2 press home button once to go to home screen, or hold it down to show recently used apps
3 open email app
4 paste.

Long-press the home button to bring up the 6 (or 8 if you're on 2.2) most recent applications.

Copy and paste should function the same as in iOS, long-press on the screen to highlight.

This.

And dont worry about switching between open programs. When you wanna use an app, just use it. Android 2.2 is extremely good about multi-tasking so you dont have to worry about leaving something running that you need or shutting it down when you are done with it. Just run it when you want it and let the phone do the rest.

Hi maybe I am doing something wrong here but when I long press it selects the entire area. How do I fine tune? Say if I want one sentence out of the paragraph.

Also what is the best media player for android? Is there a way to control it without unlocking the phone?

what phone or Android version are you using?

There are tons of great Android media players but each offers something unique. Check out sites like appbrain.com or androlib.com for reviews.

Menu key > more > select text will let you drag select the exact text you want.

Hmm, kind of lame that it won't work with other browsers. Using the Menu + E or holding the shift button on my keyboard will let me do it while in Dophin HD and emails.

Any tricks to do this in say a text message without forwarding and then selecting the text you want?

Hi thanks for replying but am I doing something wrong here. Yes it lets me select text. But I can't adjust it that well. That is to say, if it doesn't detect correct area I have to do this over again until I get the perfect selection. There is no ios style adjsutment of start and end points?

unfortunately not. if you have a trackpad or touchball you can use it right after you choose "select text" for finer control.

it is. some of the alternate android skins (sense i think) have a similar implementation.

hmm, this might help you:

also..supposedly it does have a zoom in thing? http://static.arstechnica.com/droidx/small-keyboard-dot-2.png

try hitting menu, more, select text. then hold your finger still on the starting point for a bit..i think you might get the pop up.

it can be hard to select the exact text that you want. Sometimes its easiest to start a little before you need and end a bit after. Then you can delete the extra words/letters.

Someone needs to make a TouchWiz style text selector. TW makes little dots that you can drag to the area you want to copy/edit.

This is one detail I hope they improve on in the next 1-2 releases of android. I HATE selecting text on my phone.
