Tis true!

SIMMs are generally used on pentium class computers, and were replaced with DIMMs around the time of the MMX and Pentium-Pro class processors. When being installed in pentium systems, they must be installed in pairs with pretty much identical SIMMs to work. P-Pro and MMX caliber boards generally have both SIMM and DIMM slots, and will accept only EDO of each variety. I do not believe that they are compatible with each other, i.e. using both SIMMs and DIMMs in a system whose motherboard supports both memory types.

In any case, EDO DIMMs were quickly replaced with SDRAM which is used in Pentium-II and above systems, a far faster memory technology (~10 ns latency compared to ~60ns latency).

If you have a system that supports both EDO SIMMs and DIMMs, grab whatever is already in the system.

thanx guys

wonder why my friend amd 5x86-75 socket 3 using it (edo dimms).
