Questions before I upgrade

First off I've never spent more than $155 for a video card and hate to now. But unless I wanna wait 2 months or longer for 6600GT AGP prices to come down I am gonna have to fork out $220 or little more. Before I do that is it a good investment? Will it last for at least a year or longer(longer prefered)? Also I only have 512mb of memory and can't afford another 512mb for newer games. Was thinking I could prob swing 256mb though but would it make much difference in newer games?

Or should I drop the memory upgrade and try for a 6800? Of course newer games will be choppy in places due to 512mb.

Just incase it matters:
1800+@2.2 200fsb
512mb OCZ PC3200 Gold
Radeon 7200(had a 9800np but sold it because I got a good price for it)
Abit NF7-S

sniper i would up grade . a friend of mine had a lan party last night there was a BFG 6600gt oced and a 6800 oced what i thought
was the 6600gt was the 6800 oced to my surprize . and the 256 would be a help to a void choppy gamming . I would go bfg 6600gt oc
and a small mem up grade it wont hurt that bad.
