Questions as I put my system together

Hoping you guys can help me out. Its been a while since I've put a system together.

My old system, an Asus P4P motherboard had a twenty (20) pin ATX connector and a four (4) pin ATX 12v connector. I had to plug in both for the motherboard to boot. Now I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3L, and it has twenty four (24) pin ATI connector (with 20 pin option) and a four (4) pin ATX 12v connector.

Here's my first question, do I connect both the 24 pin ATX AND the 4 pin ATX 12v? Or does the 24pin now do both?

Second question. If I'm not overclocking for now (will later) should I just put the Intel supplied HSF with its pad, or should I scrap the pad off and put on heatsink paste?

There's a third question for those that own this motherboard. With my P4P, I can bring up a bios boot menu by hitting F8 when booting. Does the Gigabyte board offer something similar?

Well, if I was you I would do both the 24pin and the 4pin. The extra cords give a little more power to the board to support new hardware.

Second questions answer would be how big of a hurry are you in? Personally I'd change it. Irregardless of overclocking, the cooler temps will be better for the chip. Intel obviously feels the heatsink with their goop is good enough so I imagine either will work fine.

I'd like to get moving on it. I'll order a better hsf (recommendations?) and put it in later. Should also upgrade my Antec SP 450w? BTW, I found the answer to my third question, it was in the manual ;)

Definitely not going well. Did a minimum install and the CPU fan doesn't turn. Tried another fan, same deal. Tried removing the 4pin ATX, same thing. Dead motherboard or header?

What's in the system when I booted:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Intel E2180 w/stock hsf
XFX 7900SE
Crucial Ballistix PC-800 2GB (1x2)
Antec Smart Power 450w
One 120mm case fan

Update: Tried connecting directly to the power supply, the fan worked. Got into the bios and turn off the auto fan control thing. Put it back onto the MB power header and the fan still doesn't work off it.

Update II: flashed the bios, fan now runs five seconds after bootup. Thanks for all the help.
