Questions abut previous ATOT ftp - Now with Poll.

I'll be coming into a sh1tload of bandwidth soon and am thinking a new ATOT ftp would be nice. Does anybody know how much bandwidth the previous site used on average? If I decide to do this, I'll need some site admins to keep it legal and give out the upload account via pm to people with stuff to upload as I won't want people using it for their own personal dumping ground.

Something tells me the the previous site used an enormous amount of bandwidth. I wouldn't be suprised if it used 4 terabytes on a monthly basis.

I will have a 45mb connection, not metered. Straight into my office. I will probably have a few servers of my own up and running. I can't imagine the FTP would use that much bandwidth. Maybe when some really popular file is upload, but even then only for a short burst.

4 TB? Are you serious? 🙁

That comes out to 18mb/s, but I doubt it was that high. I wouldn't let people dump stupid stuff on it anyway. Admins would have to approve things for people to upload, so it shouldn't get out of hand like the last one.

QFT. This isn't slashdot.

Please PM me if you are interested in administering. If you know of any good software out there for that purpose, ideally over http, post or PM as well.

not to be an ass, but if its an ftp site, won't you use ftp software? if its http, it a "normal" web site, not an ftp site

HTTP just for the administration, so folks from ATOT can admin it. If you know of some other tool used for remote administration, like setting up user accounts, etc., I'm all ears.

Right into the office? So your company will be paying for this? Do they know that?

MYOB! :|

But seriously, it's only costing us a bout 2.5X what our T1 is currently, so nobody really cares as we need more bandwidth. My boss also has his own reasons for wanting it. 😉
