Questions about XP

Two Questions :

1. How much of a performance boost would an AMD 64 user (3200+ Winchester) see from upgrading to Win XP x64, if any? I'm talking about a home user, no 64-bit apps

2. If x64 is not the way to go, would XP Pro be good for a home user because of upgraded security features? Thank you.

2. yes, if mircosoft then go XP

the question isnt xp vs 2k, its home vs pro

would the extra $40 or so really do good with the advantage of XP PRO over XP HOME for a home user?

I think he's referring to 64bit Linux (not 2K) as in, if you are using Microsoft OS...then XP is the way to go.

If you are not on a domain and don't use dual CPU's...home will probably do you fine.

Very minor. You will see some increase because of the extra registers, but that's because of the design of the hardware and has nothing to do with 64-bit'd'ness.

There are a number of threads on this forum debating the merits of Home vs. Pro for home use.

Home > Pro for average home user. I have 2 home machines and one Pro machine, and I actually have to admit that the pro machine has a quirk that I don't like while the other machines have no issues. And it does have to do with being pro.

I think I read somewhere that winXP pro users could upgrade to winXP 64 free of charge.

BTW does anyone know if winXP only come in a "pro" edition or if there will be a home edition as well?
