Questions about XP x64 and Vista

Hi everyone. I'm planning on getting an SLI system with dual core processor and the whole nine yards.

My question is this, is it worth it to get windows xp pro x64 instead of the normal pro? I've heard there's a lot of app issues with x64 but that these would be resolved over time...

Furthermore, does anyone know if one will be able to upgrade from the pro or x64 version to Vista by buying a (cheaper than the full package) Vista upgrade package like one could do between 2000 and xp?

Lastly, does anyone know when Vista is coming out?

Not worth it all

XP64 is a dead duck as there is little support for it from either hardware or software companies. Unless you are running 64 bit applications (and I am guessing as a gamer you aren't) there is no reason whatsover to advise XP64.

Better to get standard 32bit Pro and don't expect 64 bit support to happen generally until sometime after the release of Vista

TV tuner card drivers are almost non existent. Many other devices are in beta. You should be safe if you only have an nvidia or ATI add in cards and a nforce 4 motherboard. 16bit programs will not run (or ones with 16bit code, like mIRC). Many applications (such as Daemon tools, alcohol 120%, etc.) wont work. Many antivirus products do not work (see my sig).

I live in the hell of the 64bit world.

Agreed. As for Vista, I wouldn't upgrade unless there was a specific feature that you must have. For most people, there isn't one. It takes more resources to run anyway.

With vista microsoft will start to focus on 64bit, as in they will support vista both 32bit and 64bit fully.
