Questions About Wireless Networking

Yesterday, I bought a Netgear WGR614 v 6 and a Netgear WG111 USB adapter in a package deal from Best Buy (The deal says after rebates $29.99, but I paid $56 with tax and there were 2 rebate forms, both for 20 bucks that the cash register kid gave me...Sent them both in, and IF they bite I'll have gotten the setup for $16 bucks). Got the router where it looks like it's working (all green lights on the front) and the computer that is hardwired to the router (Widows XP) is on the internet (SBC/Yahoo DSL) ok...

My house is 2 story with a basement (about 3200 sq ft) and I have the main computer and router in the basement...Can I expect to get any/decent coverage on the second floor? First floor maybe?

I'm new to wireless, but pretty handy with hardware, so any tips would be greatly appreciated...

This Link has pretty helpful tips to get you started. A guy who posts here regualrly set up this site and I point it out to friends neighbors regularly. Nice one-stop place for almost everything a user would need.

Great site with lots of info...

I guess the range question is a difficult one...Anyone on here have a similar setup? And, if so, what kind of range do you get?

I use Cisco gear at work so my experience won't map directly. Your first floor should be pretty good, second floor is more iffy.

I know at home I can see my neighbors network (I don't browse of course but could) and we are about 250 feet away with intervening trees and low brush.

Just try it out and see what happens.
