Questions about Web Hosting

I work for a small pc repair shop , and i am the only Tech.

My boss wants to start a Web Hosting Service for people. He know nothing about computers, web hosting.

So my question is

What speed Internet connection do you need to host web sites, what kind of servers do you need, and basically how do you get started into something like this?

Any help would be apreciated

FYI - My current internet connection is a T1 @ 256 Kbps

well a t1 should be sufficient, but depending on the traffic, using the connection for anything else may be slow. you'll need to find the fastest system you can get your hands on and load on either a windows server os or linux. linux is obviously open source while windows server is not. then, in linux for example, you can setup an apache server. once the server is up, you'll need to register your domain name and adjust the listing to point to your ip. good luck!
