Questions about video card and ram.

Hi! Today I came into a bit of money. This never happens to me, and I wanted to treat myself. I decided to go for a new video card to replace my aging 780 ti. Now I know many folks have issues with the price, and I could have gotten better performance with a dual card setup, but I decided to go with a Titan X.

I ran into an issue though. My system only has 8gb of ram. From what I've read the minimum for the card is 8gb, and the recommended for the card is 16gb or higher. As I didn't want the bare minimum, and I had a bit of money left, I decided to splurge a bit, and go with 32 gb of ram.

Having not ordered ram in ages, I decided to just order the same stuff that I have in here, albeit a higher amount. The problem is, I realized after ordering, that it isn't the exact same stuff I have in here. This is the ram I have now:

And this is what I ordered:

My motherboard is an ASRock Z87 Fatal1ty Killer:

Do you see any compatibility issues with the new ram and the motherboard? Oh my CPU is an i7-4770k if that info is needed. I obviously won't be using the old ram, so I am not looking for compatibility issues there. Just issues between the new ram and the mobo.

As a final question, I have an NZXT Hale82 750w psu. Is that going to be enough to run that? The only usb stuff I run is a Razer Blackwidow Chroma kb and a Razer Naga mouse. Oh and a 360 controller and a Corsair Vengeance 1500 headset. Oh and my case is an NZXT Phantom with plenty of cooling, my cpu uses a Noctua DH14, which also is cool, so temps shouldn't be an issue. Sorry if I put in extra info or whatever and made the post long. I'm just worried about any issues that may arise given the huge chunk of change I just spent.

EDIT: The Titan X I ordered is the reference model from Nvidia, and I do not intend any overclocking:

You should be fine. The difference you see is the Cas Latency and that isn't really a big deal in real world performance. The Voltage remains the same. Just be sure to set your BIOS to the proper settings for the new memory if you adjusted them for your current memory. The PSU is fine wattage wise I'm sure.

Also this really belongs in general hardware or memory and storage. Lastly I haven't heard anything about you needing more system memory to run a Titan X card. I thought that the GPU VRAM was entirely separate from system memory and you could run any GPU with 8GB of memory without problems.

Ahh cool thanks a bunch! I kinda figured as much about the ram. However, I saw on the Titan page where it says 8gb minimum, 16gb recommended. I thought that seemed kind of insane, but I figured I had the extra cash, and I have come into issues with ram doing huge photo or video editing projects, so why not?

Sorry for putting this in the wrong forum. I actually sat there for a bit trying to figure where to start this at lol. Thanks again for the reply, much appreciated! Now the wait for the stuff to get here:) Placing one of the coolest orders of your life on a Saturday....ugh....

my aging 780 ti

If you want to get rid of that door stop so it doesn't take up unnecessary room let me know :p.

The RAM should be fine. The timings are different. Your current RAM is *very* slightly faster. I don't believe you would ever notice it though.

The amount of VRam on the card itself is the thing you would have to worry about from everything in my past experience.

Having more system RAM is not the same thing, unless perhaps you are doing graphics/video editing or something along those lines.

Thanks for all the replies! As for my door stop(lol), I am considering either selling it, or holding on to it in hopes I will be able to use it with the Titan when DX12 comes out. Unfortunately I found out a huge oversight on my part. I had never heard of the 16gb ram limit with Windows 7 64 Home Premium. Now I have ram on it's way and an OS that can only use half of it. I really wish I had done more homework before hand. Impulse purchases are so unlike me. I just needed something to give me that pc pick me up glowing feeling.

I suppose if I do sell the 780 ti I could upgrade to Win 7 Pro, or 8.1. However, with Windows 10 right around the corner, and coming for free, I can't see doing that. Maybe I'll just stick with using 16gb of the ram for now and hope Win 10 gets here quickly.
