questions about unlocking chips

ok with a 1 gig t-bird chip I plan to run on the abit kt7a raid, if I run that at fsb 133 and a multiplier of 7.5 or 8 or something will I need to unlock the chip? (pencil or conductive ink). At what point would I need to do that?

It almost sounds that I have to run the chip at 10X100 or do the trick to it to unlock it... but I hope that is not true.

I would have a cool tagline but I lack imagination

You will need to unlock your processor, and using a 7.5 mult @ 133fsb will give you 1 ghz. I am also trying to find the best way to unlock my cpu... my attempts have not met with much sucess. I cant seem to get the pencil trick to work.

I understand not all pencil leds will work well. I also understand there is some kind of pen for about 10bucks that has conductive ink. From what I read it is the prefered method to unlock the chip. maybe some kind soul will post a link to info on that pen to help us both out.

DrewsNick,

Radio Shack sells the pen if you search for conductive pen. I think I remember the manufacturer being Caig. I was going to order one from Radio Shack but I did not want to wait for it to get to NY from TX, so I tried the pencil. I used HB .5 lead in a mechanical pencil, and it worked for me. Who knows if it will last forever, but so far the 800 TB is running at 900 no problems.

I am still blown away by the speed of the ATA100 compared to ATA33 from my P3-733. It jumps into Windows so quickly, I now hate how slow old drives are. I got one of the free Maxtor ATA100 controllers, but no extra drive.
